8 Things to Celebrate Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year

Every year Pantone names their Color of the Year based off of current social themes and various industry trends. For 2019, Pantone announced Living Coral: “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.” In the digital days of being surrounded with technology and social media, Pantone puts a spotlight on a color that is not only found in nature but can be found on social media. They debuted their 2019 color at Art Basel Miami with a fun and experiential coral-filled pop-up in collaboration with Tribute Portfolio.

A color that represents joy and optimism. Pantone’s Color of the Year often influences future decor and fashion trends so I rounded up some fun coral pieces below.

Brands Making Sustainable Chic.

There is a trend hitting many industries and I’m absolutely loving it. From the hospitality to the fashion industry, brands are coming up with innovative campaigns to donate to those in need and help the environment. It’s no wonder why Forbes has named social impact as 1 of 5 things we know millennial want from a job. As a millennial, I find myself respecting these brands and choosing to purchase their products and share their stories.

Everlane recently launched their ReNew campaign where they created a whole line made out of recycled plastic bottles. The collection of puffers and fleece equals 3 million plastic bottles. To kickoff the campaign they launched a ReNew experiential space in Soho where customers can learn about the process and how to make a difference themselves. On top of that, they are completely transparent with their prices, breaking down on their website exactly where their prices are coming from. They even drop prices of their cashmere pieces once the price of cashmere drops in the market. Girlfriend Collective and Reformation are among other sustainable clothing brands. & let’s not forget the social media favorite Glossier that has a ton of vegan-friendly products.

In the hospitality space, 1 Hotel Brooklyn was built with recycled materials. 11 Howard Hotel donates 10% to to charity when guests book directly with their website and has partnerships with brands like FEED, The Global Poverty Project and Conscious Commerce.

These brands make it easy to shop sustainable.

Vintage Plaid

Any time I type “vintage” into Tumblr I’ll blink and hours have passed by.  Tumblr is so underrated, people post the weirdest and most interesting things on there. Anyway, I’m loving the plaid walking the streets lately. My favorite setup? A white tee, plaid blazer, a nice pair of denim and a pair of leather loafers. Also, it’s another excuse for me to go vintage shopping over the weekend.

Green Velvet

Sometimes the photos do all of the talking. I mean, how beautiful is this color? As of recently I’ve added “beautiful velvet couch” to my living room wish list. One day. Maybe it’s the holidays, but I just love the look of a dark green velvet blazer.

Camel & Cord

I’ve been really inspired (both myself and potentially my living room) by the vintage corduroy and camel coats walking the streets lately. Also, I miss just having plain ol’ fun in Photoshop so I decided to mess around a bit.

Vegan Pancake Recipe

A year and a half ago I become a pescatarian and never looked back. It was all because of a little weekend trip up to the Catskills Animal Sanctuary. You can read the full story here. Ever since then I’ve made a conscious choice to eat more vegan meals whenever possible.

Which is what brings me to these delicious vegan pancakes. Honestly, your taste buds will hardly tell it’s all vegan ingredients. You can find the original recipe here. I first enjoyed this pancake recipe at the bed & breakfast at the Catskills Animal Sanctuary. You can find tons of other vegan recipes on there as well! Enjoy xx

METALLICS

Metallics are everywhere right now. All of my favorite brands are killing it to keep up with this trend and I had to share my favorites.

I decided to add some more graphics to emphasize the metallic feel. Expect to see more of this look into my posts. I’m in design programs for my full time job and thought it would be cool to share that part of my passion with all of you.

Hope you like it! Now get to shopping 🙂

DIY: Wrapping Paper + Gold Dipped Tags

Gift-Display_6

I love the idea of decorating your own wrapping paper. It gives an extra personal touch to gift giving. Also, this is super simple and you can definitely get creative with your own designs. I love the idea of the gold dipped tags – cheap to make but super chic looking.

I found all of these items in my local Target, but you can easily find these in your local arts & crafts store.

Items used:

Other items used: scissors, tape, pencils, a coffee mug.

Directions for Hang Tag:

  1. Pour the paint in different bowls.
  2. Cut different shapes out of the construction paper. I used a coffee mug to get circular shapes and I free handed rectangular shapes.
  3. Dip the shapes into the bowls depending on your color preference. I did corner dips for some tags and I did full bottom dips for others.
  4. Leave the hang tags to dry over night. I used the twine to hang them on my Christmas tree to dry.
  5. Once they are dry, wrap and tag!

Directions for Wrapping Paper:

  1. Pour the paint in different bowls.
  2. Use the kraft paper to wrap presents.
  3. Use the foam daubers to dip into the different bowls and then onto the wrapped presents.
  4. Let dry add ribbon w/ hang tag.

Last Minute Gift Guide

Christmas is only a few days away, and if you’re like me, you’re probably spending this weekend running around for last minute gifts. Sometimes it’s super stressful! Below are some awesome ideas for gifts for really anyone on your list. Although I did provide some links, finding these items in your nearest stores are doable. So, I encourage you to get inspired and then get movin’!

Last-Minute-Gift-Guide

SWELL BOTTLE

Swell bottles are pretty awesome products. They keep your drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12. The pretty patterns they offer insist that they are for ladies, but I find these pieces to be an awesome gift for that special guy in your life too! Especially for guys that have an outdoor job, or for that executive always on the go! They’re sure to appreciate this piece. I love the Hunter Green option for a guy.

“POP” CANDLE

I am absolutely in love with Jonathan Adler’s “pop” candle line. It definitely steps up the candle game. The packaging and ombre look of the candle make it for such a beautiful gift! They also have some metallic, alcohol-inspired ones for that trendy friend of yours! Perfect statement piece for a coffee table.

PONCHO

I love the color block look of this poncho. It’s a perfect layering piece for just about any outfit. I grabbed some for a few special ladies in my life (okay and one for me too). Best of all? This poncho come in a “one size” option. No more size guessing.

SAMPLES + A BAG

Okay, so you have those few relatives that you don’t see as much, but you still want to give them a little something to show that you care. Introducing: your own subscription box – inspired gift! Create some type of theme. Women love trying different products, but don’t want to buy the full size to see if they like it. I love the idea of grabbing a few samples of a nice product collection and throwing it into a nice black velvet bag. Who knows, you might have helped them find their new favorite product! Kiehl’s sample sizes here.

SCARF

Okay, so scarves? Probably a great choice for anyone on your Christmas list this year. Although I highly recommend this one pictured (it is SO soft), Urban has a bunch of options on their website for 30% off.

Gray Inspiration

Did I make you fall in love with grey yet? This color is all over my wishlist. I decided to share some of my Christmas list to give you some inspiration for yours. Some trends to take note of here? Pom pom beanies, graphic letter apparel, and incorporating chic sneaks into your everyday look. Also, how amazing is that Jonathan Adler vodka candle? They have other (alcohol-named) candles as well.
