Helllllo summer. I have to admit, before this year, a typical summer weekend consisted of me packing up the car and heading down to the beach every chance I got. This summer was a little different. While I got my fair share of pool and beach time, I’ve been trying to find weekend day trips in the city (and a nice water breeze didn’t hurt.) Governors Island, a small getaway just a five minute (if that) ferry from New York City has so many things to explore: festivals, art exhibits, hammocks, and endless lines of food trucks. What else came with me during my summer adventures? My white adidas and my (boyfriends) army herschel bag.
FERRY: Only a $2 ticket for a roundtrip ferry to Governors Island.
SIGHTS: If there is one place that’s a must-see on the island, it’s the secret hammock getaway called Hammock Grove. Quietly tucked away in the island, if it wasn’t for the amazing view, you’d never know you were just a five minute ferry away from the hustle of Manhattan.
